Gabriela Dorantes

As Design Director at Civilla, Gaby Dorantes has a deep expertise in health and human services delivery. She led research and design for the redesign of Michigan’s benefits application and renewals, and is now working to scale Civilla’s impact nationally – leading similar transformations in Missouri, Washington, Connecticut, and beyond.

Gaby was born in Mexico and spent her early childhood there. At 11, her family moved to the U.S. in hopes of finding greater opportunity for her and her sister. Being an immigrant and growing up in two different countries ignited an awareness and curiosity within Gaby at a young age that has shaped how she views different cultures and disparities in the world around her.

After several years in nonprofits, Gaby joined Civilla for a chance to collaborate more closely with the people impacted by her work. She’s been part of the team since the very beginning. Her contributions span the Civilla org – not just her day-to-day work as a fearless design leader. She plays an invaluable role in operations and fundraising, and carries deep relationships with community partner organizations across the state. Prior to Civilla, Gaby worked at United Way, Human Rights Watch, and the Organization of American States. She studied international affairs and human rights at George Washington University.
